Central Coast Mariners captain Nick Montgomery struck a fine injury-time equaliser to rescue his side a point against Perth Glory in the A-League this morning.
The Mariners had the best chances of the first half and went close to taking an early lead when Nicolas Fitzgerald skimmed the top of the bar with a left-footed shot.
The energetic Fitzgerald was a menace throughout and he almost capitalised on some poor Perth defending 10 minutes later, but he struck the post from six yards.
Perth had a quieter opening 45, but may feel that they should have taken the lead when ex-Premier League player Andy Keogh blazed his volley wildly over from six yards as he attempted to convert the rebound to a Daniel De Silva show which hit the crossbar.
Perth found the breakthrough deep into the second half when substitute Jamie Maclaren darted to the front post and flicked a Nebojsa Marinkovic corner into the back of the net.
The Mariners piled the pressure on Perth and Montgomery's struck in the second minute of injury time, a rasping shot from 25 yards, to earn his side a point.
