Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz apologises for celebrating his goal against former club Chelsea in their Champions League last-16 tie.

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has said that he is "sorry" for celebrating his Champions League goal against Chelsea.

Luiz, who left the Blues in the summer for around £50m, powered a header beyond Thibaut Courtois in the 86th minute at Stamford Bridge to make the score 1-1 and send the game into extra time, after Gary Cahill had given the hosts the lead five minutes earlier.

PSG fell behind again before Thiago Silva scored with a header to make it 2-2 and send the French champions through to the quarter-finals on away goals.

"I finished at Chelsea and then I got a great opportunity from PSG. They gave me a great opportunity to continue my career and I was very happy at Chelsea and won titles here but I finished and then I respect everyone," ESPN quotes Luiz as saying.

"It was good for me to score. I said before I didn't celebrate but there was so much emotion I cannot control and sorry because I celebrated because of the emotion, but I am so happy to qualify."

PSG had to play over 90 minutes of the match with 10 men after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off for a tackle on Oscar.
