Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has admitted that "there are similarities" between his side and Champions League semi-final opponents Chelsea.

Atletico welcome the Blues to the Vicente Calderon in the first leg on Tuesday and Simeone has praised the Premier League outfit for their 'defensive qualities'.

"We're not the same, but there are similarities. Chelsea have one of the meanest defences in England, and that's our case in Spain," he told reporters at a press conference.

"We work well defensively, we're direct, good on set pieces... Those similarities are what have led us to where we are now: one fighting for the league in England and us being where we are in our league."

Atletico are the only unbeaten team left in this year's competition.
