Paris Saint-Germain were forced to come from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash with Chelsea at the Parc des Princes this evening.

Branislav Ivanovic had given the visitors a lead less than 10 minutes before half time, but PSG responded through an Edinson Cavani header to level the tie up after the break.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who stood out during an intriguing battle in the French capital.

PSG

Goal

Salvatore Sirigu: Enjoyed a quieter night than he might have been expecting. Only one shot on target to face, and he could do nothing to prevent it from going in. (6/10)

Defence

Gregory van der Wiel: May have anticipated more defensive troubles up against Hazard, but spent much of his time able to get forward. His final ball could have been better on a few occasions, though. (6/10)

Marquinhos: Like his defensive partners, was not troubled too often by Chelsea's attack as the visitors seemed content to take a draw back to West London. (6/10)

Thiago Silva: Dealt well with the physical nature of Costa, although he will be expecting a more stringent examination in the return leg. (6/10)

Maxwell: Was a useful outlet on the left flank and contributed to plenty of attacks. Almost set up Ibrahimovic for a winner late on. (6/10)

Midfield

Marco Verratti: Involved in a fascinating midfield battle and certainly played his part in helping PSG to win it during the second half. Perhaps fortunate not to be booked earlier than he was. (7/10)

David Luiz: His Chelsea career in a nutshell. Impressive when in possession and striding forward with the ball from his midfield role, but a defensive lapse let him down. Should have done better for the goal having lost Ivanovic briefly. (6/10)

Blaise Matuidi: A real livewire in the middle of the park. Provided the assist for Cavani and set up a couple of other chances too as PSG ran the game in the second half. (7/10)

Attack

Ezequiel Lavezzi: Failed to have too much of an impact on proceedings, with his most notable moment coming when his effort from a rebound was blocked by a mixture of Terry and Azpilicueta. (6/10)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Grew into the match as it progressed and provided a threat up front. Was denied by two fine stops from Courtois but dominated the likes of Terry and Cahill in the air on a few occasions. (7/10)

Edinson Cavani: PSG's main threat throughout. Got the equalising goal and perhaps should have doubled his personal tally having tested Courtois in the first half and poked another effort just wide in the second. (8/10)

Substitutes

Javier Pastore: Came on with just under 10 minutes remaining and saw a late penalty appeal missed by the referee for an off-the-ball incident with Ramires. (6/10)

CHELSEA

Goal

Thibaut Courtois: The man of the match and quite possibly the main difference-maker in the tie. Recalled for Cech somewhat controversially but made a string of saves over the 90 minutes, including two particularly good ones to deny Ibrahimovic. (8/10)

Defence

Branislav Ivanovic: Weighed in with yet another vital goal for his side. Struggled at times with Matuidi down his side, particularly in the build-up to the equaliser, but his goal could prove to be crucial. (7/10)

Gary Cahill: Got the assist with a clever flick to keep the ball alive inside the area, but was nowhere to be seen as Cavani nodded home unmarked in the second half. (6/10)

John Terry: Played his own part in the opening goal by providing the cross for Cahill, but was also AWOL when Cavani equalised for the hosts. (6/10)

Cesar Azpilicueta: Made a crucial block to deny Lavezzi in the second half, although he didn't know much about it. Had a difficult time dealing with Van der Wiel's overlapping runs on occasions. (6/10)

Midfield

Ramires: Dynamism and athleticism are his strongest points, but he found himself up against an equal in Matuidi today. Struggled to have things his own way in the middle of the park. (6/10)

Nemanja Matic: The match descended into a midfield battle for long periods and, while Matic didn't particularly do anything wrong, you'd have to say that PSG edged things in that area of the park. (6/10)

Willian: Was asked to do a job that is becoming all too familiar for him. Tracked back when needed and helped Chelsea close the game out without threatening much at the other end. (6/10)

Cesc Fabregas: Overcame a bout of flu to start but didn't have many opportunities to show the sort of creativity that might have caused PSG problems. (6/10)

Eden Hazard: Games like this are not made for the little maestro, but he still relieved plenty of pressure by drawing fouls and threatened to embark on a few of his trademark jinking runs. (6/10)

Attack

Diego Costa: As quiet as match as he would have had for Chelsea. Chased down the defenders during his time on the field but was little more than a nuisance, largely due to a lack of service. (5/10)

Substitutes

Juan Cuadrado: Came on for his Champions League debut but barely had a kick during his time on the field. (6/10)

Loic Remy: Replaced Costa for the final 10 minutes or so, but by that point Chelsea were happy to play for a draw. (6/10)

Oscar: Helped Chelsea to see out the result during his seven-minute cameo. (6/10)
