Chelsea attacker Mason Mount is facing a spell on the sidelines with the ankle injury that he picked up during the Club World Cup final against Palmeiras.
The England international had to be replaced in the 31st minute of his side's 2-1 victory, with Christian Pulisic entering the field as his replacement.
Mount was seen with heavy strapping around his ankle during the celebrations after the match, and Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that the attacker "hurt his ligaments badly".
"Mason told me the ankle was still, painful and didn't feel good. An opponent fell on his ankle and he hurt his ligaments badly," Tuchel told reporters after the match.
According to The Sun, Mount was forced to leave the stadium on crutches and will undergo scans on Sunday to determine the extent of the damage.
The 23-year-old has been an important player for his capital club during the 2021-22 campaign, making 34 appearances in all competitions, contributing seven goals and eight assists in the process.
