Chelsea have defeated Rubin Kazan 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.
Fernando Torres netted twice for the hosts, but an away goal for the Russians has kept the tie alive ahead of next week's second leg.
The hosts took the lead in the 16th minute when Torres latched onto David Luiz's searching pass before eventually bundling the ball home.
Chelsea doubled their advantage on 32 minutes as Victor Moses smashed in the rebound after goalkeeper Sergey Ryzhikov had failed to deal with his initial effort.
However, Rubin grabbed an away goal moments before the break through Bibras Natkho's penalty following a handball from John Terry.
The visitors looked dangerous during the second half, but Chelsea restored their two-goal cushion with 20 minutes left to play as Torres powerfully headed in Juan Mata's cross.
