Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Nottingham Forest

:Headline: Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Nottingham Forest:
Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the Premier League fixture at Nottingham Forest on New Year's Day.
Sports Mole

Chelsea are back in action on New Year's Day as they square off against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

The Blues resumed competitive action earlier this week as they took on Bournemouth in the top flight, prevailing by a 2-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge.

However, while Graham Potter will be able to call upon at least two more players for this contest, the Chelsea head coach lost another key player to injury during the triumph over the Cherries.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of beginning 2023 with a trip to the City Ground.

Reece James

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 3 (vs. Fulham)

On his comeback appearance from a knee injury, Reece James suffered a recurrence of the issue in the 53rd minute of the meeting with Bournemouth earlier this week. Chelsea have since confirmed that the right-back will be sidelined for up to a month, resulting in a likely absence of six matches.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: January 8 (vs. Manchester City)

The hamstring injury that Ben Chilwell sustained against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League last month ruled him out of the World Cup, and while he has made good progress over the winter, Sunday's game will still come too soon for him.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: March 4 (vs. Leeds United)

France's N'Golo Kante was also unable to represent his country in Qatar due to his hamstring injury and subsequent surgery, which will likely keep him sidelined until the beginning of March.

Wesley Fofana

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: January 21 (vs. Liverpool)

Kante's compatriot Wesley Fofana has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury, and the current timeline sees the defender pushing to try to return before the Premier League fixture with Liverpool towards the back end of January.

Armando Broja

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Armando Broja suffered a cruciate ligament injury in Chelsea's winter friendly with Aston Villa, and the Albanian striker will not play again this season as he recovers from surgery.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: January 8 (vs. Manchester City)

Ruben Loftus-Cheek came off with a calf injury just five minutes into Chelsea's loss to Newcastle United before the World Cup break, and it could be at least another week before the Englishman is available for selection again.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Chelsea have no players suspended for this match.
