Wesley Fofana was pictured leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches and in a knee brace after Chelsea secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over AC Milan in the Champions League.
Although Chelsea claimed their first win of the Champions League group stage on Wednesday, there will be concern over the fitness of their summer signing.
Fofana opened the scoring for the Blues in the 24th minute, but he was replaced only 14 minutes later after limping off the Stamford Bridge pitch.
Further goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James wrapped up the 3-0 win, and after the game, Graham Potter was asked about Fofana's injury.
The Chelsea boss told BT Sport: "We'll have to scan it tomorrow and see how it is. Nothing to report at the moment. That's the one disappointment of the evening."
"We don't know yet [the extent of the injury]. We will scan it tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I wouldn't want to speculate on it now, but we're concerned and hope for the best."
While Fofana's presence looks to be in doubt, Chelsea will begin preparing for Saturday's Premier League home meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers. body check tags ::
