Gus Poyet: 'Chelsea will change their approach'

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet believes that Chelsea will adopt more attacking tactics in the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet feels that Chelsea will completely change their approach in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

The Blues adopted a defensive strategy against Brendan Rodgers's side, but took the lead at Anfield when Eden Hazard fired them in front from the penalty spot in the 18th minute.

However, Liverpool upped the ante against Jose Mourinho's side's defensive tactics in the second half as Raheem Sterling notched their equaliser and Steven Gerrard hit the post, but the home side were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Poyet told Sky Sports News: "I cannot see Hazard defending too much, or [Diego] Costa, they're going to be up front.

"Now the shape of Liverpool when they're attacking has to be different. [Emre] Can, how is he going to mark? how isolated is he going to be? It was a totally different Chelsea. Not the Chelsea that was aggressive at the weekend, they were holding, waiting.

"It was like the Chelsea of a few years ago when they won the league, making it difficult for the opposition."

The second leg of the semi-final takes place at Stamford Bridge on January 27.
