Chelsea relinquished first spot in the Premier League on Thursday after losing 5-3 at Tottenham Hotspur.

Harry Kane scored twice for Spurs, while Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and Nacer Chadli also registered for the hosts, who have moved into fifth spot in the Premier League.

Chelsea led early on through Diego Costa, but entered the interval 3-1 behind.

The Blues scored twice more in the second period through Eden Hazard and John Terry, but it was not enough to take something from the match.

TOTTENHAM

Goal

Hugo Lloris: Beaten three times, but made a stunning save to deny Cesar Azpilicueta at a vital period of the match. One of Europe's best goalkeepers these days. (7/10)

Defence

Kyle Walker: Did not get forward too much on his return to the side, but looked strong in defensive areas. Will need time to return to his best form following a long lay-off. (7/10)

Federico Fazio: Made a number of crucial clearances, but the centre-back cost his side a second goal after having his pocket picked by Hazard just outside the box. (6/10)

Jan Vertonghen: Managed to contain the threat of Costa for long periods, but did not look too comfortable when Hazard drove into the final third. (6/10)

Danny Rose: Scored his side's second with a clever finish just before the interval. Used his pace to escape some potentially dangerous defensive positions. (7/10)

Midfield

Andros Townsend: Struggled to influence proceedings for long spells, but showed excellent nerve to convert from the penalty spot. Was replaced by Paulinho after 66 minutes. (7/10)

Ryan Mason: Game ended just 14 minutes in following a hamstring injury. (5/10)

Christian Eriksen: Had to play second fiddle to a number of his teammates. That said, the Dane was always a threat when he found space in advanced areas. (6/10)

Nabil Bentaleb: Nice and solid from the midfielder, who put himself about for the entirety of the match. Spurs missed his presence against Manchester United. (7/10)

Nacer Chadli: Quite probably his best performance for Spurs. Set up Kane for the striker's second and netted a brilliant goal late on. Chelsea just could not live with the Belgian. (8/10)

Attack

Harry Kane: Man-of-the-match performance from the striker, who scored twice before setting up Chadli late on. Gave Chelsea's defence the absolute runaround at the Lane. (9/10)

Substitutes

Mousa Dembele: Was called upon after just 14 minutes following an injury to Mason and the midfielder immediately picked up the pace of the match. Had a good afternoon. (7/10)

Paulinho: Has been seriously out of favour this season, but was given the final 25 minutes here. Picked up a yellow card for a high challenge on Azpilicueta. (6/10)

Ben Davies: Replaced Rose after 76 minutes and put in an energetic performance. (6/10)

CHELSEA

Goal

Thibaut Courtois: Strong from high balls, but was ultimately beaten five times. Needed a lot more protection from his back four in North London. (6/10)

Defence

Branislav Ivanovic: Usually such a dependable performer, but the Serbian struggled here. Was caught out of position on a number of occasions. (5/10)

Gary Cahill: Had an absolute stinker. Conceded a penalty following a poor challenge on Kane and could not get near the Englishman in the second 45 minutes. (4/10)

John Terry: Continued his excellent scoring run late on, but looked his age down the other end. Found it difficult to deal with the likes of Kane and Chadli. (5/10)

Cesar Azpilicueta: Generally more defensively sound than left-back rival Filipe Luis, but the Chelsea back four were all over the place at White Hart Lane. Not one of his best performances. (5/10)

Midfield

Nemanja Matic: Has been so impressive for Chelsea this season, but the Serbian struggled here. Lost the midfield battle with Bentaleb and Dembele. (6/10)

Oscar: Played his part in Chelsea's first of the match, but was the player to be sacrificed at the interval as Jose Mourinho attempted to tighten his midfield. (6/10)

Cesc Fabregas: Provided his 14th league assist of the season to help the visitors take the lead. One of the few Chelsea players that can leave the game with credit. (7/10)

Attack

Willian: Was given a start due to his defensive capabilities, but the Brazilian really struggled. Hardly featured before departing 20 minutes from time. (5/10)

Diego Costa: Opened the scoring with a close-range finish, but faded as the match developed. Looked as if he needed a strike partner in the second 45 minutes. (6/10)

Eden Hazard: Quite comfortably his side's best performer. Played his part in goal number one and three for Chelsea, in addition to scoring the second. Gave the Spurs back four nightmares. (8/10)

Substitutes

Ramires: Introduced at the break to tighten the midfield, but the Brazilian could not stop Spurs moving 4-1 ahead early in the second period. (6/10)

Mohamed Salah: Passed up a brilliant chance late on as he fired straight at Lloris from inside the box. Looks to be on his way out of the club in the January window. (6/10)
