Tottenham move up to fifth in the table as they inflict a second defeat of the season on Chelsea, edging a thrilling London derby 5-3 at White Hart Lane.

Chelsea have fallen to just their second defeat of the season in a pulsating London derby at White Hart Lane this evening, with Tottenham Hotspur running out 5-3 victors.

The win also lifts Spurs above rivals Arsenal into fifth place, with Mauricio Pochettino's side now just two points adrift of the top four.

The hosts were the first to threaten when Nacer Chadli connected with a bicycle kick inside the box, but Thibaut Courtois made the save and Chelsea went straight up the other end to open the scoring a minute later.

Eden Hazard was initially denied by the woodwork, but the ball fell to Oscar, whose low effort was helped into the bottom corner by Diego Costa.

Spurs levelled things up on the half-hour mark, however, as Harry Kane continued his recent good form with a fine effort from the edge of the box.

Hazard had a chance to restore his side's lead five minutes before the break, but he was made to pay for failing to hit the target with a headed effort.

Spurs ended the first half with two goals to give themselves a cushion heading into the break, with the first coming from Danny Rose when he converted a rebound after Chadli had hit the post.

They were then awarded a penalty in stoppage time when Gary Cahill brought down Kane inside the box, and Andros Townsend made no mistake from the spot to double his side's lead.

Hazard threatened again at the start of the second half, but Spurs moved into a commanding position when Kane turned on the edge of the box before curling his effort into the bottom corner, his 17th goal of the season.

Chelsea set about looking to get themselves back into the match and they were handed a lifeline when Hazard reduced the deficit just past the hour, firing an effort into the bottom corner after good link-up play with Cesc Fabregas.

But for the heroics of Hugo Lloris, the visitors would have pulled another goal back with 15 minutes remaining as the Frenchman keeper pulled off a fine stop to deny Cesar Azpilicueta.

Spurs killed the game off with their fifth of the evening shortly afterwards, however, as Kane turned provider to find Chadli, who did the rest with an accurate finish.

Chelsea refused to give in and pushed for a late goal to spark a comeback, with Ramires and Mohamed Salah both missing decent opportunities before Jose Mourinho's side got their third.

It was John Terry who made things interesting with the goal, converting Hazard's cross at the back post to give his side hope.

Fabregas was within inches of reducing the deficit further still in stoppage time, but his cross struck the woodwork as the pressure began to build.

Spurs held out, however, claiming a famous victory to ensure that Chelsea remain level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table with an identical record to the champions.
