AC Milan are reportedly expecting to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek during the summer transfer window.

AC Milan have reportedly emerged as the most likely destination for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The long-serving Blues man has enjoyed regular football during 2022-23, making a total of 20 starts and 10 substitute outings in all competitions.

More recently, the 27-year-old has been relied upon by Frank Lampard, providing an assist versus Nottingham Forest in last Saturday's Premier League fixture.

However, at a time when Chelsea sit in 11th position in the standings and will be without European football in 2023-24, departures will naturally follow.

Much may depend on how Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to be named as the club's new head coach in the coming days, decides to put together what will be a much smaller squad.

Nevertheless, Chelsea's owners have identified the sales of at least one academy graduate to give their ailing FFP position a significant boost before June 30.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Milan are expected to finalise a deal for the England international in due course.

Writing on Twitter, the Italian journalist says that the 27-year-old has become one of Milan's priority targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

Talks are said to have progressed with Loftus-Cheek, who has spent his entire career representing London clubs, allegedly keen to move to San Siro.

While a fee has not been mentioned, a compromise will likely be reached with the player having just over a year left on his contract and Chelsea seemingly having no intention of activating a 12-month option.

Loftus-Cheek, who has also been linked with other Italian clubs, has chipped in with 13 goals and 18 assists from his 152 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions.

Milan initially discussed the potential signing of Loftus-Cheek when the teams met in the Champions League group stages, and Loftus-Cheek would be linking up with former Blues teammate Fikayo Tomori if he completes a transfer.

I Rossoneri are currently outsiders to secure Champions League football for next season, trailing fourth-placed Lazio by four points in the table with three games left. body check tags ::
