After spending six years with the club, Marcos Alonso leaves Chelsea by mutual consent ahead of completing a move to Barcelona.

Marcos Alonso has agreed to leave Chelsea by mutual consent ahead of a move to Barcelona.

The Spaniard has been linked with a departure from Stamford Bridge after saying farewell to Chelsea staff a number of weeks ago.

However, Barcelona's struggles to register players has delayed the move as well as the 33-year-old being involved in discussions that have seen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang move in the opposite direction.

Following the arrival of Aubameyang on a two-year deal, Chelsea announced that Alonso had left the club by mutual consent.

After enjoying a six-year spell with the Blues, the 31-year-old will be allowed to sign for Barcelona as a free agent despite the transfer window being closed.

Alonso scored 29 goals and provided 23 assists in 212 appearances for Chelsea, winning six trophies in his time with the club.
