Chelsea have reportedly identified RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner as an ideal summer signing.
Blues manager Frank Lampard recently confirmed that his side could be in the market for fresh faces during the upcoming transfer window, and Chelsea have been strongly linked with additions to their forward line.
Lyon's Moussa Dembele is rumoured to be on Lampard's radar, but the Frenchman's reported £60m price tag could hinder Chelsea's attempts to sign the striker amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As a result, the Blues may explore other options ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, and according to ESPN, Chelsea are seriously considering an offer for Werner.
The report claims that Lampard's side are hopeful of convincing Werner to move to Stamford Bridge with the promise of guaranteed first-team football, and the Blues could activate the striker's release clause to sign him for £49m.
However, Werner is understood to be holding out for a move to Liverpool, but no side has tabled a concrete bid for the 24-year-old as of yet.
Werner netted his 25th Bundesliga goal of the season as Leipzig defeated Koln 4-2 on Monday evening.
