Real Madrid will reportedly send their chief scout to watch Newcastle United duo Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak in Champions League action against Kylian Mbappe's Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.
The Spanish giants have been long-term admirers of Mbappe and continue to closely monitor the forward's future at PSG, with his current contract due to expire in the summer of 2024.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently expressed confidence that the 24-year-old will commit his future to the French champions following a drawn-out summer transfer saga.
Nevertheless, Mbappe is at risk of leaving PSG for free in less than a year's time and will be free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from January onwards.
After bidding farewell to Karim Benzema in the summer, Real Madrid will look to prioritise the signing of a new centre-forward within the next two transfer windows, and Mbappe remains at the top of their wishlist.
However, Los Blancos also have other targets on their radar as Spanish news outlet Defensa Central claims that they hold an interest in Newcastle duo Guimaraes and Isak.
The report adds that chief scout Juni Calafat will be in attendance at St James' Park when the Magpies play host to PSG in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday night, and will be monitoring the performances of Guimaraes, Isak and Mbappe.
It is claimed that both Guimaraes and Isak are 'on the club's agenda' and Real Madrid want to take a closer look at the pair 'in a big match'.
Guimaraes has established himself as a key cog in Eddie Howe's machine since joining Newcastle from Lyon for around £40m in January 2022, scoring 11 goals and registering seven assists in 66 appearances across all competitions.
The deep-lying midfielder, who has played in all eight games for the Magpies so far this season, has been linked with a number of top European clubs including Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona as well as Premier League trio Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.
However, Newcastle are believed to be hopeful of fending off competition from potential suitors as they have allegedly reached an agreement with the 25-year-old Brazilian over a new five-year contract, including a release clause worth in the region of £100m.
Meanwhile, Isak still has five years remaining on his deal after joining Newcastle for a club-record £63m last summer following a three-year spell in La Liga with Real Sociedad.
The 24-year-old Sweden international was nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award last season after scoring 10 goals in 22 top-flight appearances, and he has since begin the new campaign in impressive fashion after netting five times in eight games across all competitions.
While Isak is said to be viewed by Real Madrid as one potential long-term replacement for Benzema, Guimaraes could be regarded as a long-term successor to either Luka Modric, 38, or Toni Kroos, 33, who are both out of contract next summer. body check tags ::
