Real Madrid have reportedly entered the race to sign Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, with contract negotiations between the player and German club stalling.
The 22-year-old made the switch to the Bundesliga from MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps in December 2018, going on to enjoy a trophy-laden spell in Europe so far.
Davies has helped Bayern to five German league crowns as well as an infamous Champions League success in 2020, when he fully introduced himself to the footballing world with an eye-catching display against Barcelona in the quarter-finals.
The defender has featured 164 times for the Bavarian giants since joining from Vancouver nearly five years ago, scoring eight times during that spell.
According to German outlet Bild, Real Madrid are lining up a move for Davies in the future, with the Spanish club looking to cement themselves as a European powerhouse for years to come.
The report claims that Los Blancos are preparing a bid for the Canadian as he enters the final year of his deal at the Allianz Arena in the 2024-25 season.
Davies' current terms in Germany expire in the summer of 2025, and although Bayern have been in discussions with the player and his representatives over a deal, negotiations have stalled.
Speaking openly about his client's situation, Nick Househ - Davies' agent - has explained that the interest from Carlo Ancelotti's side has flattered both himself and the full-back.
"Real (Madrid) is a big club, I'm a big fan. Real is a big name. When you hear rumors about your protege, it makes you proud," Househ said recently.
"We still have two years of contract with Bayern. We will wait and see how everything develops in the coming weeks."
It is understood that the 13-time European champions are hoping to secure the services of Davies for £35m, but would be willing to pay close to £44m in order to recruit their number-one target in the left-back position.
Ferland Mendy is Los Blancos' most natural option on the left side of their defence currently, however the 28-year-old's French compatriot Eduardo Camavinga has shown his versatility to also operate in that role in recent matches.
The Canadian has featured and started in all seven of Bayern's Bundesliga matches so far this term, providing three assists for teammates as the Bavarian begin their mission to regain the German crown.
It has also been reported that Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea are preparing to challenge Real for the signature of Davies, with the English duo monitoring the defender's contract situation carefully.
Thomas Tuchel will take his Bayern side to Mainz on Saturday evening, when the Bundesliga holders to could climb from fourth to the summit of the top-flight standings in Germany. body check tags ::
