Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning to pip former club Real Madrid to the signing of Luis Suarez by launching a £40m move for the Liverpool striker.
The Uruguayan has publicly admitted his desire to move to Los Blancos, whom Mourinho left to rejoin Chelsea last month, but the Spanish giants have yet to contact Liverpool regarding any potential transfer.
In fact, it was Arsenal who opened the bidding, but the Gunners saw their £30m offer rebuffed by the Reds, who have insisted that Suarez must issue an official transfer request if he is to quit Anfield.
Despite Suarez's strong preference of a move away from England, where he feels that the media have been overly critical of him, The Mirror understands that Mourinho is hoping to tempt the 26-year-old to stay in the Premier League and will test Liverpool's resolve with a £40m bid.
The Blues have apparently turned their attention to Suarez after failing with moves for Radamel Falcao, Hulk and Edinson Cavani.
