Roma brushed aside Chievo Verona 3-0 on Friday night as they responded to Lazio's victory 24 hours earlier.
Looking to move back above their city rivals in the battle for fourth spot, Roma came out quickly as they struck twice in the opening 20 minutes.
Stephan El Shaarawy opened the scoring just nine minutes in as he beat Stefano Sorrentino, and Edin Dzeko doubled the lead in the 18th minute as he fired across the goalkeeper to find the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Chievo created a number of chances to get back into it, but rarely looked like beating Antonio Mirante and the game was effectively over six minutes into the second half when Dzeko teed up his old Manchester City team-mate Aleksandar Kolarov to lash home a left-footed shot.
It could have been worse for the hosts when Dzeko's shot struck the crossbar in the 77th minute before El Shaarawy fired against the left post after being set up by the Bosnia striker.
The win sees Roma move level on points with Lazio, who edged out Empoli on Thursday, with Roma boasting the superior goal difference.
