Chivas USA have ended their four-match winless streak, edging the New York Red Bulls in a five-goal thriller at the StubHub Centre.
The Red Bulls went into the match on a run of just one defeat in their last six, but fell behind on the half-hour mark as Julio Morales found the bottom corner from close range.
Just sixty seconds later New York got their first goal in three games to equalise through Tim Cahill, who headed home Thierry Henry's cross from close range.
New York were unable to stay level until the break as Ibrahim Sekagya conceded a penalty after bundling Erick Torres over in the box.
Torres got up to convert from the spot, before adding a second 10 minutes from time to give his side a two-goal advantage in the closing stages.
New York threw on Bradley Wright-Phillips in search of a response and pulled one back to set up a grandstand finish, as Dax McCarty found space to send a measured header just inside the near post.
Cahill went agonisingly close to a last-gasp equaliser as his effort was cleared off the line in stoppage time, with Chivas hacking clear to hold on for a morale-boosting win.
