A second-half strike from Erick Torres has helped Chivas USA record their first win in nine games.
Jose Luis Real's men overcame Toronto at the StubHub Center, despite having to play with just 10 men for over 65 minutes following Eric Avila's sending-off.
Avila was shown a straight red card midway through the first half for a poor tackle on Darel Russell.
However, Chivas defied their numerical disadvantage and frequently caused their Canadian opponents problems on the counter-attack.
That pressure finally told with 11 minutes remaining when Tristan Bowen fed Torres with a clever pass and the little Mexican found the bottom-right corner of the net with a driven effort from 20 yards.
Toronto are now winless in five MLS outings.
