Colchester United manager Tony Humes has praised his players for 'doing their job' and achieving survival in League One this afternoon.
The U's earned a 1-0 win against Preston North End which, combined with defeats for Notts County, Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town and a draw for Leyton Orient, saw them end the season in 19th place.
Humes told Sky Sports News: "We said at the outset that it was important we did our job. Once we got the goal, we started looking at where we were. Credit to the players, they got us out of the situation."
The result also saw Preston fall to third, with MK Dons pipping them to automatic promotion.
