Colchester United manager Tony Humes has revealed that he has no intention of re-signing Anthony Wordsworth.
The 26-year-old, who made almost 200 appearances for the U's prior to his departure for Ipswich Town in 2013, will become a free agent at the end of the month.
Speculation had suggested that he could return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium, but Humes has insisted that he is "looking at something slightly different".
"I don't think Anthony will be one that we'd be looking at," the Colchester Gazette quotes Humes as saying.
"He's a good player who did well for Colchester during his time here but we're looking at something slightly different."
During his stint with Championship side Ipswich, Wordsworth spent time on loan with Rotherham United and Crawley Town.
