Kevin Kilbane is training with Coventry City with a view to earning a contract with the League One club.
The former Republic of Ireland international is a free agent following his release from Hull City last month.
Having seen the 35-year-old perform over numerous sessions, manager Andy Thorn has admitted that he has been impressed with Kilbane's fitness levels.
"Kevin is having a look at us and we're having a look at him and I have to say he looks as fit as a butcher's dog," Thorn told the Coventry Telegraph.
"He's told me he just wants to enjoy his football and he came off the training pitch with a big smile on his face and told me he'd really enjoyed it.
"He's an experienced head who can play in a number of positions, including full-back and central midfield, and I know he will be good to have in the dressing room as well."
Kilbane spent three years at the KC Stadium with Hull.
