Brad Inman has vowed that Crewe Alexandra's players will repay supporters following their 'embarrassing' defeat to Peterborough United.
The Railwaymen were humbled 5-1 at Gresty Road on Saturday afternoon to remain well adrift of safety at the foot of League One.
Crewe have a chance to quickly bounce back in midweek when they take on Colchester United, which Inman is eager to use as a platform to push on following his side's latest setback.
"We know the result has hurt us and the fans, and we owe them, and there's no better way than to play Colchester," the Crewe Chronicle quotes him as saying. "There are certain words I can't really say, but it was an embarrassment, the boys were ashamed.
"We know it is not good enough and we have to put it right tomorrow. We didn't start the best but then we came back into the game and I felt we really had a chance, but it just hit us.
"It was like blinking and we were 4-0 down and there was no way back. It is better to have a game straight away so we can get our mind set on Colchester, rather than a full week of thinking back to Saturday. The boys are focused now on getting a result there."
Alexandra have won just three of their 18 league games so far this season.
