Wayne Rooney has experienced a bittersweet weekend by opening his account for DC United but also breaking his nose in a 2-1 home win over Colorado Rapids in the MLS.
The 32-year-old scored the opener on 33 minutes by slotting the ball through the legs of former Manchester United teammate Tim Howard.
Kellyn Acosta levelled for Colorado eight minutes from time, but a Niki Jackson own goal in the 90th minute gave the hosts all three points.
The former England captain missed out on a perfect day, however, when he suffered a broken nose while carrying out defensive duties in stoppage time.
Tweeting after the game, Rooney said: "Delighted to score my first goal for DC United last night and more importantly a big three points at the Audi Field... and a broken nose and five stitches."
DC United remain bottom of the Eastern Conference in the MLS despite ending a run of two consecutive defeats.
