Derby County are aiming to offer Nigel Clough a new deal when the manager’s contract expires next summer.

The 45-year-old, who joined the Championship side two years ago, is reportedly seen as an integral part of the Rams' future.

However, chief executive Tom Glick wants to keep negotiations behind closed doors.

"Our commitment to Nigel has been on display to everyone for some time,” Glick told BBC Radio Derby. “He has been our guy and continues to be our guy.

"What we don't want to do is conduct any sort of extension in public. We're aware his deal is up next summer and we'll work together to hopefully extend that for some time to come.

"We are delighted with how the team has started the season and we have remained constant in our conviction that Nigel is the right guy for now and the future."

Derby have recorded four wins and one defeat in their league campaign this season, and currently sit third in the Championship table.
