Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is reportedly considering a bid to buy Derby County.

On Thursday evening, it was confirmed that Ashley's 14-year reign at St James' Park had come to an end with the Magpies being purchased Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

However, fresh off the back of a £305m sale, it appears that Ashley is contemplating an instant return to the boardroom at Pride Park.

According to The Mirror, Ashley could attempt to buy Derby, who are currently sitting at the bottom of the Championship after entering administration.

The report suggests that any purchase of the Rams would also benefit his company Sports Direct, who are located a short distance away from the East Midlands club.

With Derby requiring an owner who is prepared to write off their excessive debts, Ashley would appear to be a genuine contender for the position. body check tags ::
