Roy Hodgson has said that he was "disappointed" to see Antonio Valencia react violently to a challenge from Raheem Sterling during England's 2-2 draw with Ecuador this evening.
The Ecuador captain was brought down by a rash challenge from the England winger late on, but seemed to grab the Liverpool player by the throat in retaliation, earning both men a red card.
After the match, the manager told BBC Radio 5 live: "Raheem Sterling's sending-off was harsh. I am a bit disappointed a senior player like Antonio Valencia reacted in that way.
"It is a pity because I was looking forward to seeing [Sterling] play on Saturday but it looks like that won't be possible."
Sterling is likely to be suspended for England's final friendly ahead of the World Cup against Hondurus on Saturday.
