Empoli have ended a nine-game winless run in Serie A by beating fellow strugglers Cesena 2-0 this afternoon.
Massimo Maccarone gave the hosts the lead on the half-hour mark when he collected Elseid Hysaj's pass inside the box, before turning and firing a low effort into the far corner.
They had a chance to double their advantage shortly after the break, but Manuel Pucciarelli saw his effort saved by the keeper.
However, Empoli did manage to score for the second time in the 57th minute when Franco Signorelli slotted in after being found by Mario Rui.
The hosts were then able to see out the rest of the match and claim a first win in the league since November.
