Roy Hodgson hypes counter-attack "weapon"

England boss Roy Hodgson admits that their counter-attacking prowess could prove to be a "weapon" in future games after two goals on the break saw them beat the Swiss.

England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that their counter-attacking prowess could prove to be a "weapon" during their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

The Three Lions scored twice on the break in their 2-0 win over Switzerland in Basel, with Danny Welbeck profiting from the good work of Raheem Sterling and Wayne Rooney.

Hodgson believes that having such pace in his forward line is going to provide England with a great counter-attacking threat in future games, and was also pleased with several other positives that were on show.

"That's going to be a weapon for us going forward, the pace and the mobility of our players, the technical ability," he told Sky Sports News.

"But more than that tonight, I think you saw the unbelievable work rate and unbelievable togetherness of the team, people like Rooney, Welbeck chasing back to make certain we weren't outnumbered.

"There are a lot of positives for me to take but we're not getting carried away. It was a good result but we have a lot of work still to do and we are rather hoping that it will at least give these boys a bit of confidence that if we can come here and win, we can go to other big teams."

England face San Marino in their next qualifier in October.
