Rickie Lambert has said that he is "proud" of his Southampton teammates Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez after the duo made their England debuts in last night's 2-0 defeat to Chile at Wembley.
Although an Alexis Sanchez double saw the South Americans triumph on the night, Lambert said his teammates played well.
"I was willing them on, I was made up for them and I was so proud. I thought they did well in a very hard game," Lambert told ITV Sport.
"I don't want to say [the result] tainted their debuts. They are disappointed they have lost. They would have obviously liked to have been in a winning team, that is the same as anyone.
"I said to both of them after the match that it was a very good Chile side they came up against. It's just harsh that the first international has come up against such a good team."
Lambert made his international debut in August and scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Scotland.
