Wayne Rooney not expecting physical game against Scotland

England captain Wayne Rooney reveals that he is not anticipating an overly physical contest in his side's friendly clash against Scotland at Celtic Park.

England captain Wayne Rooney is not expecting his side's clash with Scotland to be as fiery as encounters of the past.

The Three Lions have enjoyed physical contests with Scotland in the past with mixed results, but the 29-year-old is not anticipating a overly brutal clash at Celtic Park in the friendly match.

Rooney told reporters: "The history between England and Scotland is different. This has more of a football feel to it. We've worked on stuff which we know we want to do.

"The manager will give us more instructions on the game, and it's down to us to put them into practice on the pitch. If there are drastic changes, we'll be up for it. We have to play the game within the rules. I don't think it'll be like the games of 20 years ago.

"It will be a football game. There will be an edge to it, but that is what you expect from this kind of fixture."

England recorded a 3-2 victory over Gordon Strachan's men in their last meeting in August 2013.
