How England could line up against Senegal

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how England could line up for Sunday's World Cup clash with Senegal.

With a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake, England manager Gareth Southgate will carefully weigh up his options before Sunday's encounter with Senegal at Al Bayt Stadium.

The Three Lions boss brought Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford into his side to face Wales last time out, following a below-par display versus the United States, and that quartet is in contention to keep their place as the knockout phase begins.

Therefore, Kieran Trippier may remain consigned to the bench, while Raheem Sterling's established spot in the front three is also at some risk.

One thing is for sure about England's attacking trio: captain Harry Kane will once more lead the line up front, as he searches for his first goal of the Qatar 2022 finals.

Meanwhile, in midfield, Henderson should join Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, with Kalvin Phillips still completing his gradual return to full fitness.

After missing out on the group stage, Leicester City playmaker James Maddison is now available but finds himself well down the pecking order following the past fortnight's events.

Harry Maguire and John Stones continue their so-far successful partnership in defence, as Southgate is likely to retain a four-man rearguard rather than reverting to a back three at this stage of the tournament.

Indeed, the Euro 2020 finalists may remain relatively unchanged such was their fluency in the second half of Tuesday night's victory, which would also leave Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mason Mount and Jack Grealish among the substitutes.

England possible starting lineup: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Henderson, Bellingham; Saka, Kane, Foden
