FA chairman Greg Dyke is confident that FIFA will not hold the 2022 Qatar World Cup in the summer.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke is confident that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will not be held in the summer.

FIFA announced last Friday that the global tournament would remain in the Middle East, but a decision on when the competition will be played has been delayed until after the 2014 World Cup.

Issues over the dates of the tournament came to light due to the extreme heat in the summer months, with a possible option of the World Cup moving to the winter.

"Anyone who has ever been to Qatar in the summer will know that you cannot hold a football tournament there," Dyke said during the Leaders in Football conference at Stamford Bridge.

"Even if you could air-condition the stadium, the fans queue for hours and they cannot do that in that heat.

"The one thing that is clear is that that tournament will not be held in Qatar in the summer and I think we can all welcome that. I think we can assume that it will stay in Qatar however."

The Qatar World Cup has also been marred by alleged mistreatment of migrant workers.
