Steven Gerrard coy on England retirement

England captain Steven Gerrard hints that he may announce his retirement from international duty in the next "four or five days".

Steven Gerrard has hinted that he may retire from international duty once England's World Cup campaign has been completed.

The 34-year-old's future with the Three Lions was a subject of discussion before the competition started, with the Liverpool skipper claiming that he would make a decision once the tournament ends.

Gerrard's misplaced header allowed club teammate Luis Suarez to fire Uruguay to a significant 2-1 win on Thursday, and the defeat casts England's progress from Group D in major doubt.

Although the midfielder insists that it is not the right time to discuss his future, he did confirm that he would speak to the media again in the next "four or five days".

"I think I need to park that hurt and the feeling I have got and see what happens over the next four or five days," Gerrard is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"But if you go out in the group stage it will be a very personal low for myself and the team and I am sure everyone will feel very similar.

"It's not the moment now to talk about my future. But I said before the tournament that I'll be respectful to [the media] so let's see what happens over the next four or five days and we'll talk again."

Roy Hodgson's side will bow out of the tournament this evening if Costa Rica pick up a draw or better against Italy.
