Steven Gerrard desperate for "last crack" at World Cup

England skipper Steven Gerrard is desperate to reach next year's World Cup so that he can have one "last crack" at the tournament.

England captain Steven Gerrard has expressed his desire to help lead his side to next year's World Cup so that he can have one "last crack" at doing well on the biggest stage in football.

The 1966 World Cup winners face Ukraine in a crucial qualifier tomorrow night with the Three Lions currently topping Group H on goal difference ahead of Montenegro.

The match will see Gerrard's midfield partner Frank Lampard join him in becoming an England centurion, and the Liverpool man hopes that their desire to reach one last World Cup will inspire the rest of the squad to raise their games.

"It will be our last crack at doing well at a World Cup and hopefully that will be infectious within the rest of the group," Gerrard told reporters.

"We hope the rest of the lads can see how much we want it and they can feed off that."

Gerrard, who made his debut against Ukraine 13 years ago, has gone on to win 104 caps for his country, scoring 20 goals in the process.
