Steven Gerrard has insisted that becoming England's most-capped outfield player is not something he is thinking about.
The Three Lions captain is expected to win his 112th cap in Saturday night's match against Italy to leave him three short of David Beckham's tally.
"Individual achievements have never been in my head," Gerrard is quoted as saying by ITV Sport when asked about the potential milestone.
"When I made my debut for Liverpool or England I never set myself any targets, it is unnecessary really to put yourself under pressure and I think it would be very selfish I was sitting here now thinking about my own caps rather than Italy and how the team is going to perform.
"My main focus is getting myself right, making sure I perform well for England and then trying to help everyone around me do the same."
Peter Shilton holds the overall record for most England caps with a total of 125.
