Roy Hodgson condemns fan attack

England manager Roy Hodgson condemns an attack on his side's supporters ahead of tomorrow night's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in Kiev.

Roy Hodgson has condemned the actions of the people who attacked a group of England fans last night ahead of tomorrow's World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine in Kiev.

Three England fans were reportedly hospitalised by the attack, with one man being stabbed after an ambush by a large group of Ukrainians.

The attack came a year after England fans had last visited the city for Euro 2012, when no trouble was reported between opposing supporters.

"We deplore that, everyone deplores that and I'm certain people in Kiev deplore that," Hodgson told PA.

"I don't know the circumstances. It's unfortunate these things can happen when football fans get together. The atmosphere here last year was remarkable and nothing like that happened.

"I'm sad it's occurred and I only hope our fans are not going to be put off by that and I hope the fans aren't so badly injured they can't attend the game."

England currently sit top of Group H and would move three points clear with two games left to play with a win tomorrow night.
