England manager Roy Hodgson has insisted that he has "no doubt" over Wayne Rooney's ability to play in different positions in the team.
The Manchester United's form at international level has been called into question once again ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next week.
The 28-year-old was placed on the left wing for the Three Lions' warm-up match against Ecuador on Wednesday, but the forward was able to end a four-game goal drought by scoring in the 2-2 draw at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
"We have always known Wayne has the ability to play several positions," Hodgson said in a press conference. "There was no reason for me to doubt Wayne could play well in that left-sided position.
"I was pleased he scored a goal. His record is quite incredible and hopefully he will continue that because we need our scorers in good form."
England will play Honduras in a friendly tomorrow before flying out to Rio to face Italy in Manaus on June 14.
