Roy Hodgson has admitted that he is "so disappointed" that his England team could not end their World Cup campaign with a victory over Costa Rica.
Successive defeats to Italy and Uruguay ensured that the Three Lions went into their final Group D game against the Caribbean team with only pride to play for.
Hodgson's side played out a 0-0 draw with already-qualified Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte this evening, and the 66-year-old admits that he would have liked to end the tournament with a flourish.
"We showed today what a good team we can be," he told ITV Sport.
"I'm so disappointed not to finish with a victory but I don't think I could have asked for a much better performance.
"Apart from the first 10 or 12 minutes of the game I thought we dominated it totally, but unfortunately we didn't take our goal chances. Had we taken them, it would have been a comfortable victory."
Earlier today, Uruguay beat 10-man Italy to join Costa Rica as Group D's representatives in the last 16.
