England boss Roy Hodgson has admitted that he was surprised by comments made by Harry Redknapp that players tried to avoid international duty when he was at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 67-year-old claimed in an interview that, when he was Spurs boss, players approached him to get out of upcoming international fixtures.
Hodgson believes that during his two-year tenure as England boss he has seen a great desire to represent the Three Lions.
He told reporters: "In the two years I've been here, I've seen a greater interest in playing for England, so Harry's comments come as a bit of a surprise to me.
"If you make comments like that, you have to name them."
Captain Steven Gerrard has also called upon Redknapp to name the players involved in the allegations.
