Phil Jones insists that there are no issues with England's discipline following Raheem Sterling's sending-off against Ecuador on Thursday.

England defender Phil Jones has insisted that there are no issues with discipline within the squad, despite Raheem Sterling's sending-off in yesterday's friendly against Ecuador.

The Liverpool starlet was shown red just 14 minutes after coming on as a substitute during the Three Lions' 2-2 draw in Miami for a rash challenge on Antonio Valencia.

The Manchester United player was also given his marching orders after he appeared to grab Sterling's throat in reaction to the tackle.

"The referee was a bit harsh," The Guardian quotes Jones as saying. "I don't think Raheem's done too much wrong. It's harsh. The referee probably could've kept them both on the pitch.

"You've got to deal with whatever gets thrown in your face and everyone's discipline is key, but I don't think there was anything to worry about.

"We've talked about a lot of things over the last few weeks - there's no right and wrong, and people will pick up cards because it's the nature of the game, but I don't think there was any maliciousness in this incident."

Sterling is banned from featuring in England's final warm-up fixture, but should be available for their World Cup campaign, which gets underway in Manaus against Italy on June 14.
