Danny Murphy: 'Chile example for England'

Danny Murphy suggests that England could have got more from their clash with Uruguay, had they played with a higher tempo throughout like Chile.

Danny Murphy believes that England needed to play with a higher tempo of passing throughout their game with Uruguay in Sao Paulo.

Roy Hodgson's men struggled to defend against Luis Suarez as the Liverpool forward scored twice to put the Three Lions on the brink of elimination from the World Cup.

However, Murphy believes that England only started to increase their pace of play when trailing in the game and could have got more from the match.

He told BBC Sport: "The tempo of the passing only got quicker when we were losing. What annoys me is that we can play quicker and faster, we see it week in, week out in the Premier League.

"But we don't seem to start that way, it's as if we have fear. Chile were the perfect example of what we can do, because we have got the players to do it."

Should England go out of the tournament, it will be the first time since 1958 that they have gone out at the group stage.
