Wayne Rooney: 'England need to improve'

Wayne Rooney says that England must play better if they are to reach the World Cup Finals in Brazil.

England striker Wayne Rooney has insisted that his side need to improve if they are to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Manchester United forward gave the Three Lions the lead in the first half of their 1-1 draw in Poland before Kamil Glik levelled the match for the hosts.

The fixture was arguably England's toughest in the group, but Rooney is adamant that the Three Lions must play better.

"It was a hard-fought point. It was a difficult game, a difficult pitch. We weren't at our best but we dug in and got a draw," said Rooney. "We know we can play better but this is a difficult place to come. It is a decent point.

"We knew it was a tough group, but we're confident. We believe in ourselves and we believe we are the best team in the group, so we are confident of qualifying.

"Do England have to improve to qualify? Yes, of course. We know we can play a lot better but at least we got the point, so we can take that home."

The game went ahead on Wednesday after it was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on Tuesday.
