England coach Roy Hodgson has revealed that forward Wayne Rooney will be his captain in the future.
The 26-year-old was the Three Lions skipper for their 5-0 victory over San Marino in the 2014 World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Friday.
"Yes," said Hodgson when asked if Rooney will be his future captain. "He was my vice-captain at the Euros, at least from the moment he could play.
"Frank Lampard has come back in and he's actually captained the team but I always had in my mind that Wayne would be the vice-captain.
"It's something he's proud of and something he wants to do."
Rooney became the fifth-highest goalscorer of all time for England with his two goals on Friday, taking his tally to 31 goals.
