England midfielder Jack Wilshere wants manager Roy Hodgson to remain at the helm of the Three Lions, despite failing to win a game at the World Cup in Brazil.

England midfielder Jack Wilshere has claimed that he and his compatriots want manager Roy Hodgson to remain at the helm of the Three Lions, despite failing to win a game in Brazil.

The England coach has come under scrutiny after his side finished bottom of a World Cup group for the first time in their history.

Wilshere, however, rallied in support of his national manager, telling the London Evening Standard: "It is not the manager's fault.

"The manager can pick the team but the players have to go on the pitch and do it. Everyone here respects the manager. He has got a fantastic CV and been to World Cups before.

"If anything comes out of this, it is that this manager is the one to take us forward. Even if we had won against Costa Rica, we would have been disappointed. We are going to wake up every day wondering 'what if?' but we have to get over it."

The Football Association has insisted that Hodgson retains its unequivocal backing.
