Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that changes may need to be taken to manage James McCarthy's fitness.
The 24-year-old is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League match against West Ham United at Goodison Park after he pulled out of the Republic of Ireland squad last week with a hamstring problem.
"Maybe it's managing the work he does in training," Martinez told the Liverpool Echo. "We need to find the right formula because we need to make sure we don't get these sort of injuries on a regular basis. He's a super fit boy and he shouldn't be picking up these sort of knocks."
The midfielder signed for Everton from Wigan Athletic back in 2013.
