Frank Lampard, Thomas Frank react as Everton hold Brentford to draw

Thomas Frank and Frank Lampard were both left feeling disappointed after Brentford and Everton played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

Head coach Thomas Frank says that he was left 'mystified' after Brentford were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Despite defeat at Fulham last weekend, the Bees were the clear favourites to prevail against a Toffees outfit who have been struggling for goals since the start of the campaign.

Nevertheless, it was the visitors who went in front during the first half as Anthony Gordon, who has been heavily linked with Chelsea, fired a smart finish past David Raya.

Although they spent much of the fixture trailing to a solitary goal, Brentford dominated for large periods and hit the woodwork on multiple occasions.

However, their pressure finally paid off during the closing stages as Vitaly Janelt converted from close range with summer arrival Keane Lewis-Potter providing the assist.

After the contest in West London, Frank talked up the performance of his players, saying that he was left perplexed with how they had not claimed maximum points.

Speaking to MOTD, Frank said: "I'm very pleased and proud of our team. The players are amazing and showed top mentality. The amount of chances we created today was incredible.

"How we dominated it and controlled the game throughout but didn't win, that will be a big mystery. We have shown that we like to make substitutes and have good players who can change games. I 100% feel like we should have won. That was a nine out of 10 performance."

Opposite number Frank Lampard acknowledged that his team could have few complaints with a share of the spoils, despite having led for an hour of the game.

Lampard told the same channel: "It was a tough game. This is always a hard place to come. I thought we played really well in the first half and scored a really good goal.

"I'm disappointed we didn't hold out. It's a fair point. There is a great spirit in the team and we will only get better."

Brentford are next in action when they make the short trip to Crystal Palace on August 30, while Everton square off against Leeds United at Elland Road on the same evening. body check tags ::
