Everton manager David Moyes has expressed his delight at Phil Jagielka's decision to sign a new contract at Goodison Park.
The England defender, 30, extended his Toffees deal until June 2017 on Thursday, a move which Moyes believes proves that the club is heading in the right direction.
"Over the years Everton have been one of the biggest clubs in this country," said Moyes. "Maybe at times it has been hard but you can't take away Everton's position in football in this country.
"I think Phil Jagielka has signed for a really good club, he's a really good player and we're delighted to have him.
"He has been excellent since he came here and has worked his way into the England squad which is really important for him and for us and he deserves that."
Jagielka has featured in all 21 of Everton's Premier League matches so far this season.
