Referee Martin Atkinson is waiting to hear whether he will be demoted for the next round of Premier League matches after his decision to send off Everton's Jack Rodwell against Liverpool was overturned.
The 20-year-old was shown a straight red after a dubious tackle on Liverpool's Luis Suarez during the Toffees' 2-0 defeat in the Merseyside derby last weekend.
While Everton were successful in their appeal against Atkinson's decision, disciplinary chief Graham Bean believes that the referee should be punished after the "ludicrous" red card.
"Martin Atkinson should be suspended from officiating in the Premier League for a period after making the ludicrous decision to send off Jack Rodwell," the Daily Star quotes Bean as saying.
"It was without doubt one of the worst refereeing decisions this season and if an experienced referee like him makes serious errors like this, then there has to be concerns about his standard of refereeing."
The 40-year-old will learn his fate once the appointments for the next round of Premier League fixtures are announced on Monday.
